In the ever-evolving universe of indie games, few developers capture the essence of chaotic creativity quite like Noldo, the one-person studio helmed by Ultdx. With roots stretching back to the underground days of PSP homebrew, Ultdx has long been a torchbearer for physics-driven mayhem, where the rules bend, break, and occasionally combust. His latest project, Stickforge, builds on this legacy with a renewed sense of community-powered anarchy.
Billed as the spiritual successor to the beloved BattleStick, Stickforge hurls itself headlong into the world of moddable sandbox multiplayer. This isn’t merely a new coat of paint, but a full-throttle reimagining, blending the slapstick energy of stickman physics with the kind of creative freedom that invites chaos, laughter, and maybe a few unexpected explosions. Players can dive in and immediately start shaping their own environments, scripting their own events, and populating their worlds with anything from NPCs to rubber duck militias.

From the moment you load it up, you know you’re not dealing with an ordinary multiplayer title. Here, gravity is more suggestion than law, and weapons are just as likely to make you laugh as they are to win a round. A flaming hammer might launch you across the map, or a spear might trigger a chain reaction of bouncing limbs and airborne barrels. It’s absurd, yes, but intentionally so, and that’s where its charm lies.

Much of the magic comes from the sheer breadth of the tools available. With support for the “Tiled” editor, players can create intricate maps down to the tile. The asset pipeline is refreshingly open, draw your own stickmen in GIMP or Krita, assign them names and rarities, then drop them into the fray. Whether you’re crafting a peaceful roleplay haven or a lethal gauntlet of traps and mini-bosses, the game invites you to be its co-creator.

All the content from BattleStick makes its return too, over 50 weapons and items, numerous stickman skins and headgears, plus a batch of classic maps reimagined for the new engine. With Steam Workshop integration and dedicated server hosting, you’re never far from a fresh mod or a new player-run world to explore. The ethos is clear, if you can dream it, you can probably break it in hilarious fashion.

But this is only the beginning. Looking forward, Ultdx envisions even broader horizons. Upcoming features promise linked maps, NPC-driven open worlds, and cooperative raids. One of the most anticipated milestones on the roadmap is a fully customizable vehicle system, letting players build their own vehicles, whether animated like a ragdoll (such as; horses) or rigid like planes. The idea is to hand over the keys entirely, allowing the community to stitch together vast, interconnected universes filled with puzzles, bosses, and who-knows-what-else.
In the end, Stickforge isn’t just a game, it’s an invitation. A call to arms for the creatively unhinged, for players who’d rather build a bizarre contraption than chase a leaderboard. It laughs in the face of polish, embraces the unpredictable, and reminds us that sometimes, the best games are the ones we make ourselves.
